This summer has been made even better by the recent opening of Streeterville Social at the Loews Chicago Hotel. The well named Streeterville Social offers two bars, a wonderful coverd in real grass lawn area

This is a very cool location because it’s not a high in the skydeck, Streeterville Social is just a few floors up so your away from the hustle bustle of the city, but still close enough to enjoy the sites and the sounds. You can see the Lake and the City

The amount of space is amazing because of where it’s located there is about 9,000 square feet of beauty – with views, park like feel, and some extras that you will enjoy as you sip a wine, have a snack, and people watch.

A great spot for a first date they have some games and cool seating niches like  birdcage chairs,  high-top tables, cabanas that  make getting to know someone very comfortable.

I can imagen a girls night out, but not having to leave the large space with a delightful menu. Items you can find…Oyster Po’ Boy, chorizo,  Crispy Lamb Belly Gyro, you will love it.

It’s not like any other deck in our city so I suggest you head over and enjoy before we have to start thinking about the weather changing.

Ooh La La – Enjoy Bastille Day all Month

Ooh la la did you miss Bastille Day?

I’m a horrible mom – not because I missed Bastille Day, it’s because I made my youngest child stick in his French classes for 8 years. Well, I needed to insure that if he ever had an opportunity to go study abroad, that the deck would be stacked in his favor and that he might wind up in France.

Have you been to France? If you know me, you know I love love love Paris, and almost anything French. This past semester my son did get to study in France, (because he did speak French) he studied in Paris and lived in the Bastille District. Since today is Bastille Day – we can all celebrate a bit…

"The July Column (Colonne de Juillet) which commemorates the events of the July Revolution (1830) stands at the center of the square - Bastille prison stood until the 'Storming of the Bastille' and its subsequent physical destruction between 14 July 1789 and 14 July 1790 during the French Revolution"

“The July Column (Colonne de Juillet) which commemorates the events of the July Revolution (1830) stands at the center of the square – Bastille prison stood until the ‘Storming of the Bastille’ and its subsequent physical destruction between 14 July 1789 and 14 July 1790 during the French Revolution”

Why celebrate Bastille Day? The colors are easy, red, white, and blue. July 14th is often thought of as France’s Independence Day. I want to encourage you to at least if even just for today, do something, try something French inspired. Maybe grab a croissant, a macaroon, a sip of champagne for lunch, wear red, white, and blue, say a French word or even just think of the Eiffel Tower there you did it! It’s great to feel connected.

Want to feel even more connected, how about a taste of some delectable French fare? Near Chicago?  Lucky you!. Take a step inside the Pierrot Gourmet at The Peninsula Chicago. The French inspired decor warmed the atmosphere and simple elegant Red, White, and Blue touches set the mood. For me, it did bring my mind and senses back to my most resent visit to Paris. In the front is a display case deliciously looking pastry classics.

I spotted Macaroons, Tri Color Éclairs and other tasty looking deliclies.

Go try “All Things French” When I heard that The Peninsula Chicago was hosting a celebration to celebrate the hotel opening in Paris this year I was excited to check it out, my blogging pal @mjtam invited me to join her. Below are some of the items you can have this month. It’s so worth it and Ooh La La..enjoy

We were treated to mouthwatering tastes from the selection this month. You should try to stop over and taste some of what is being offered in Pierrot Gourmet, I’m going to be there next week with my “French” speaking son, I can’t wait to get back and have some more items. Let me know what you try at  The Peninsula Chicago’s street-level European-style café and bistro

Exceptional service, luxury beyond your expectations, and toss in some French Flavor…ohh laa laa. Having just recently stayed at the Beverly Hills Peninsula along with a past visit to the Hong Kong property I can tell you the attention to detail and service will dazzle and delight you.

I was invited to sample the Bastille Day menu at The Peninsula Chicago. I was not financially compensated and all opinions expressed are my own.

Let’s just put an egg on it – and eat

I love egg’s – and it’s crazy but almost any food that has an egg on it, in it, or around it tastes pretty good. My three son’s love eggs on any type of burgers, my daughter will eat eggs on her pizza, and my hubby just likes them scrambled.

This past year I have traveled the world. Of course I can order eggs in around the world now..
in Chinese it’s 鸡蛋
Italian uova
Turkish yumurta
French œufs
Catalan ous
Spainish huevos

Why do people love bloopers?

I have raised 4 children. I have made plenty of mistakes along the way, and most of them have worked out to be great teachable moments for my kids. Even if I had to eat some humble pie along the way.

I am proud to say we made it though high school and college without them winding up in the police blotter. My twins just turned 21 and never got an under age drinking ticket at college. Three of my children have traveled and studied abroad and made it home safe and sound, even though some of the Facebook posts I happened to see were um less then stellar.

Screen Shot 2014-07-09 at 10.44.45 AM

I have tried to be a perfect role model, with all the best behavior I could muster. I must admit at times it has been tough. Have you ever tired to discipline your child while holding in the laughter because what they did to deserve the little lecture was really funny, but unexpected behaviors.

How about yelling at your kids and hearing your moms voice come out of your mouth. OY

One rule I have lived by, is to let my kids see me make mistakes. It’s the little subtle lessons they learn when they know how you recover from the mistakes that worth it. As much as I would like them to think I’m perfect it’s better for them to know that I’m not.

Discover a flower work of art to celebrate life!

Now in Chicago

Now in Chicago

Last week we had an opportunity to introduce Kalla Flowers in Chicago. The ritual of sending flowers has become very mundane; Mothers Day, the birth of a baby, birthdays, graduations, and other special occasions are not mundane events. These touchstone moments in our lives represent the very best in life. They are the connections with our family, relatives, and friends that embrace the most wonderful moments that we cherish.

Bold floral designs and signature gift box are sure to wow!

Kalla does so much more than just package and send flowers. Kalla put’s the meaning back into the old saying Tis better to give then receive” with Kalla they help create a connection to the receiver and the giver to show that the occasion is truly one that is special, should be celebrated, and build on the memories for our lifetime.

Since Flowers represent the true circle of life, from the first gift a new baby receives when they enter the world, to all the special moments, from graduations, birthdays, weddings, holidays, I love you days, and many more moments.

We feel that Kalla has a unique role where the generic arrangements of the past have no place when it comes to really showing the receiver of a Kalla’s arrangements how much the sender loves, appreciates, and is connected to the occasion.  The reasons you send a Kalla arrangement is it envelopes true emotional memories and connections to be cherished forever.

Easy Packing Tips – 1 Bag – 3 Weeks – 5 Tips

Easy Packing Tips

Easy Packing Tips

Having twin boys in their junior year of college on a study abroad program has always been a dream of mine. Making one son study 4 years of French in high school, and the other Spanish has paid off. I’m off to Europe to visit one son in Paris and the other in Barcelona.

They are going to be my tour guides, I’m taking trains and small local planes to visit them. I was able to save a lot of money on my flights by being very flexible with my dates.

I’m traveling very frugal and light, I have to…did I mention I have twins doing study abroad?

Here are some easy packing trips, that will keep you in style, on time, warm, and your luggage bag light enough you can carry it.

1. Try to look for big space in a smaller bags, you can find many that are sturdy and have plenty  of room. I packed this same amount in a carry on Osprey ,  as in this a light to check American Tourister bag.

2. Use a packing cube or old fashion Zip plastic style bag. The key to fitting a lot in was I used  many of those zip plastic bags to put my clothes in and suck the air out, I looked for clothes that I can layer, rinse and wash, and I wore my heavy items on the plane.

This all fit easy in both bags - Use Zip Plastic Bags to squeeze out air, save room

3.  Stick to a color plan, but bring a few bright items to beak it up, dress it up, and layer on.

4. Should you go with the roll or fold? I say it depends on the item. I fold my jeans smash them in a Zip  plastic bag, squeeze out the air and they are flat. If you try to roll the jeans they can take up a lot of room. I will save items to roll and pack in the sides and in-between items. I also will roll shoes together and again place in a plastic zip bag, and they will slide just about anyplace you need them to fit.

Zip Lock Bags, lot's of items I can layer

5. Pop some color and fun with an extra sweater, or fun accessories like scarves, hats, hair items, belts, sunglasses, earrings, have fun they are easy to fit in small spaces but can bring a big impact.
